The Victory Avenue was dominated by the turn-of-the century atmosphere; that atmosphere has been preserved to this day by the Savings House and the Big Posts buildings, in front of the Doamnei Street, in the financial district around the National Bank and farther up, between the Capsa House and the Continental Hotel.
The monumental Bucharest of the year 1918 was still expressing itself through the "representatives" of the 19th century architecture: the Savings House and Posts Palace, the Romanian Athenaeum, the Justice Palace and the Chamber of Deputies House, the Royal University Foundation, the Military Circle, the palace of the present-day City Hall, the classical central body of the University, the National Theater, the Cantacuzino, Gradisteanu, Ghica, Kretzulescu palaces, the Minovici villa, the Vernescu, Assan, Monteoru houses.
